Backstory

I’m from New Orleans. I grew up building computers and getting interested in markets in an unusual way: the digital gold economy in World of Warcraft. It’s how I first started thinking seriously about supply, demand, and how markets assess value. That curiosity is what sent me into economics at LSU and then into investing as a career. I started as a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch and later continued that work at Personal Capital in Denver. Those jobs taught me how households actually make financial decisions, and it also made the limits of the industry hard to ignore. I could help someone organize a plan, but I couldn’t change the fact that most of the tools I was expected to use sat on top of a monetary system I no longer trusted. I left traditional finance because I wanted to spend my time on a financial future I believed in.

Bitcoin story

At Casa I spent more than five years advising thousands of clients on high-stakes bitcoin security, which meant sitting with the unglamorous part of the story: keys, inheritance, recovery, and the difference between owning an asset and merely having exposure to it. Someone can understand bitcoin as an idea and still not know how to hold it, how to pass it on, or how to keep a family from being locked out of it. That is where a lot of the real journeys happen, and it is the expertise I bring to Swan Private.

The rest of my time in bitcoin has been in public. I organized Denver BitDevs for 2 years so the technical side of bitcoin could be learned in person and not just online. I cofounded The Space and served as its first chairman so Denver would have a hub that outlasts a bull market. I hosted 48 episodes of the Value Stack Podcast to sit and talk with people living through the same shift I had made. And I wrote The Bitcoin Tao, 81 short verses in the shape of the Tao Te Ching on sovereignty, patience, and what it means to live with bitcoin as money.

In our conversations, I’ll focus on aligning with your current understanding and reasons for adopting bitcoin in your life. We’ll talk through your security posture and privacy goals, and in doing so, establish a roadmap for your own self-sovereignty journey.
