Robinhood doesn't charge commissions on stocks, ETFs, Bitcoin or other coins, but trading there isn't free. For Bitcoin and other coins, the cost is built into the price you see. Robinhood says that for every $100 of coins you trade through the app, it receives about [$0.95 (0.95%)](https://robinhood.com/support/articles/crypto-order-routing/) from the trading firm that fills the order (as of June 15, 2026). Other fees apply when you move money: [$100](https://cdn.robinhood.com/assets/robinhood/legal/RHF%20Fee%20Schedule.pdf) to transfer your account to another broker, up to [1.75%](https://cdn.robinhood.com/assets/robinhood/legal/RHF%20Fee%20Schedule.pdf) for instant withdrawals and [$25](https://cdn.robinhood.com/assets/robinhood/legal/RHF%20Fee%20Schedule.pdf) for outgoing wires (as of October 19, 2026).

Here's every Robinhood fee that matters in 2026, what they add up to on a real purchase, and how the cost of buying Bitcoin compares with a Bitcoin-only service.

## Robinhood fees at a glance

- **Stock and ETF trades:** [$0 commission](https://cdn.robinhood.com/assets/robinhood/legal/RHF%20Fee%20Schedule.pdf). Small SEC and FINRA regulatory fees apply when you sell.

## How Robinhood Crypto fees work

When you tap Buy in the Robinhood app, your order goes to a trading firm (a market maker) that sells you the coins at a price slightly above the market. That gap is the **spread**. [Robinhood's own example](https://robinhood.com/support/articles/crypto-order-routing/): on a $100 purchase with a 0.96% spread, Robinhood receives $0.95 (as of June 15, 2026).

You don't see this cost as a separate line, so it's easy to miss. On a $1,000 Bitcoin purchase, about $9.50 goes to Robinhood, and you pay it again when you sell.

In 2026 Robinhood added **fee tiers** for Bitcoin and altcoin orders sent straight to exchanges through Robinhood Legend, ladder orders and its API. Small traders pay a [0.95% fee](https://cdn.robinhood.com/assets/robinhood/legal/rhc-fee-schedule.pdf) to buy at the current price (taker) or 0.50% if they place an order that waits (maker). Heavy traders pay much less. Robinhood says these [maker/taker fees are rolling out gradually](https://robinhood.com/us/en/support/articles/crypto-fee-tiers) and may not be available to every customer yet (as of October 19, 2026). Default orders in the app still use the spread, and they don't count toward your tier.

Exchange-routed fees by 30-day volume (taker / maker):

- **$0–$10K:** 0.95% / 0.50%
- **$10K–$50K:** 0.75% / 0.35%
- **$50K–$250K:** 0.25% / 0.125%
- **$250K–$500K:** 0.15% / 0.075%
- **$500K–$1M:** 0.125% / 0.06%
- **$1M–$5M:** 0.10% / 0.04%
- **$5M–$10M:** 0.04% / 0.02%
- **$10M–$25M:** 0.03% / 0.01%
- **$25M+:** 0.03% / 0.00%

## What Robinhood fees cost on a real purchase

Using the fees above (as of October 19, 2026), here's what buying $1,000 of Bitcoin in the Robinhood app adds up to:

- **Buying $1,000:** about $9.50 goes to Robinhood through the spread (0.95%). The full spread you pay can be slightly larger: in Robinhood's example it was 0.96%.
- **Selling it later:** about another $9.50, so a buy and a sell cost roughly $19 in total.
- **Getting the cash fast:** an instant withdrawal of $1,000 to your bank costs up to $17.50 (1.75%). A standard bank transfer is free.
- **Moving your account to another broker:** $100, flat.
- **Withdrawing the Bitcoin to your own wallet:** no Robinhood fee, only the Bitcoin network fee.

If you accumulate on a schedule instead ([dollar-cost averaging](https://www.swanbitcoin.com/investing/dollar-cost-average/)), say $100 a week for a year ($5,200 in total), about $49.40 goes to Robinhood through the spread. The same purchases at Swan cost $52.00 in fees (1%), or $49.50 for a new client, because there's no buy fee on a new client's first $250 ([Swan fees](https://www.swanbitcoin.com/fees/), checked October 22, 2026).

## Does Robinhood charge a fee to sell?

There's no commission to sell, but selling isn't completely free. When you sell stocks or ETFs, [small SEC and FINRA regulatory fees apply](https://cdn.robinhood.com/assets/robinhood/legal/RHF%20Fee%20Schedule.pdf). When you sell Bitcoin or other coins in the app, you pay the spread again, about 0.95% ([Robinhood](https://robinhood.com/support/articles/crypto-order-routing/)).

## Can you withdraw Bitcoin from Robinhood?

Yes. Since a [2024 settlement with the California Department of Justice](https://www.theblock.co/post/314828/robinhood-to-settle-3-9-million-penalty-with-california-doj-over-past-crypto-withdrawal-restrictions) over earlier withdrawal limits, Robinhood lets customers send Bitcoin and other coins to [their own wallets](https://www.swanbitcoin.com/education/best-bitcoin-wallet/). Per Robinhood's [wallet support page](https://robinhood.com/us/en/support/articles/cryptocurrency-wallets) (as of October 19, 2026):

- No Robinhood fee, only the Bitcoin network fee.
- You must pass a "verify it's you" check first, which can take up to five business days.
- If you turn on address allowlisting, new addresses have a 48-hour wait.
- Withdrawal limits are set by Robinhood and can't be raised on request.
- Lightning and Taproot (bc1p) addresses aren't supported.

## Can you hold Bitcoin in a Robinhood IRA?

No. Robinhood says [products from Robinhood Crypto aren't available in an IRA](https://robinhood.com/us/en/support/articles/retirement-investing/) (as of October 19, 2026). Self-directed Robinhood IRAs hold stocks and ETFs, plus options for qualified traders. Robinhood offers an [IRA match of 1%, or 3% with Gold](https://robinhood.com/us/en/support/articles/ira-overview/), on eligible contributions.

## Buying Bitcoin on Robinhood and at Swan

- **Cost to buy $100 of Bitcoin:** Robinhood, [about $0.95 (spread)](https://robinhood.com/support/articles/crypto-order-routing/). Swan, [$1 (first $250 free for new clients)](https://www.swanbitcoin.com/fees/).
- **Fee shown up front:** Robinhood, no, it's built into the price. Swan, yes, a [1% fee](https://www.swanbitcoin.com/fees/).
- **What you can buy:** Robinhood, stocks, options and many coins. Swan, Bitcoin only.
- **Withdrawals to your own wallet:** Robinhood, [allowed, with checks and limits](https://robinhood.com/us/en/support/articles/cryptocurrency-wallets). Swan, [free](https://www.swanbitcoin.com/fees/), and can be set to happen automatically.
- **Retirement account:** Robinhood offers an IRA but cannot buy [Bitcoin in the IRA](https://robinhood.com/us/en/support/articles/retirement-investing/). Swan offers [Swan IRA](https://www.swanbitcoin.com/bitcoin-ira/) that holds real Bitcoin.

**Self-custody help:** Robinhood doesn't allow clients to withdrawal Bitcoin to self custody. Swan allows clients to withdrawal their Bitcoin for free and also offers [Swan Vault](https://www.swanbitcoin.com/vault/) which is a 2-of-3 multisig cold storage, with a recovery kit that lets you access your Bitcoin without Swan.

The headline cost to buy is similar. The difference is what you own afterward: Swan sells only Bitcoin, and it's built around getting your Bitcoin into your own custody.
