Bitcoin is not private by default. Every bitcoin transaction is stored on a public ledger called the block chain that can be used in combination with various external data points about users to track transactions and balances. Every major bitcoin company is required by law to keep ever growing lists of bitcoiners and their transaction history further exacerbating this issue. These requirements put users at risk of theft, extortion, persecution, and identity theft when this data is shared, leaked, or stolen. Over the last decade surveillance companies have been founded and developed with the explicit focus of tracking bitcoin users for governments and corporations.
Fortunately it remains possible to use bitcoin privately with many new tools and resources available to users who are ready to take personal responsibility and improve their situation. Below is a collection of resources and discussions that can help you use bitcoin more privately.
